BOISE, Idaho (9/3/2015) - Sierra Nobley tallied 18 kills to lead the Broncos in a 3-1 loss to Idaho State in the opening match of the Boise State Invitational Thursday night. Nobley, Maddy O'Donnell and Kaitlyn Oliver combined for 39 kills but it was not enough against the Bengals as Boise State fell to 1-3 overall on the season. The tournament continues Friday afternoon with the Broncos taking on A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m. in Bronco Gym, free admission.

"I was very proud of the team's comeback in the first set, we were a little shaky to begin with," said coach Shawn Garus. "Idaho State applied a lot of pressure in the first set and the team battled back for the win, I am proud of that effort. Idaho State was relentless in the second and third sets. We couldn't get our middles involved because we weren't passing good enough to string anything together, that is something we got to work on in the short turn around to get ready for tomorrow's match."

Nobley led the team in kills for the fourth straight contest collecting 18 while hitting 22.7 percent with two assists, one service ace and six digs.

Kaitlyn Oliver followed with 11 kills hitting a team-best 44.4 percent. The redshirt-sophomore added a team and season-high five blocks to her night.

Maddy O'Donnell contributed 10 kills hitting 36.4 percent, to go with one service ace, five digs and one block.

Freshman Sabryn Roberts added nine kills, two digs and three blocks. Sarah Baugh dished out a season-high 46 assists in guiding the Bronco offense. Defensively, Maddi Osburn recorded a team-best 13 digs followed by Hannah Hubbard with 10.

Boise State opened the match slow falling behind in the opening set versus pressure by Idaho State's defense. However, the Broncos collected themselves and surprised the Bengals by rallying from four points down, 24-20, late in the frame to take it 26-24. O'Donnell recorded two of the points during the 6-0 run including the set clincher on a service ace to give Boise State the early match lead 1-0.

The second set was close early on until ISU used a small run to claim a 16-11 lead midway through. The Broncos rallied with a 4-0 run to close within one at 16-15, but the Bengals seized control using a 9-2 run to win the second set 25-17 and even the team score at 1-1.

The final two sets saw the Broncos take early leads only to watch Idaho State rally past them for the victories. In the fourth frame Boise State opened strong taking an early 8-2 lead and held onto an advantage until ISU came back to tie the score at 16. The Broncos kept the edge until the Bengals took their first lead at 21-20. Idaho State then held onto to take the fourth and decisive set 25-23.
